Wildlife benefit

Bee plant

  • A native annual attractive to bees.
  • Upright spires of hooded, yellow flowers. It takes its name from the seed capsules that bear loose seeds which rattle when shaken.
  • Unusual in that the seed can be sown directly into a grassed area. The seed must be fresh and the grass cut short and scarified vigorously to reveal the soil before sowing. Can self-seed on lighter soils.
  • Useful to reduce vigour of courser grasses as yellow rattle is semi-parasitic on grass.
