It could be a flowerpot or garden tool, or something as big as this rebuilt, repainted shed. Every time you find another use for something, you save the environmental and financial cost of providing a new one. It’s what sustainability is all about.

Just as important, re-using items removes (or at least delays) the need to throw them away. And with landfill sites filling up fast, it helps to remember there is no ‘away’.

Re-using things can also be a creative business, whether it’s old washing machine drums turning into plant containers, making mosaics from broken tiles, or using bits of metal as plant supports and bringing sculpture to the allotment sculpture. So let your ingenuity be your guide!
